Play through the classic quest as the kingdom’s worst hope in the Dragon Knight RPG. Slay the monster. Save the girl. Don’t drop your sword. Made by a solo developer, Dragon Knight is a RPG with retro vibes that does not take itself too seriously, but still has many elements you might expect to find in other games; swing the sword, kill the things, gain experience. Hack and slash (and trip and flail) your way through typical foes such as orcs, witches, demons, and of course, a dragon. The story features various endings (some perhaps more satisfying than others) depending on the choices you make. When it comes to difficult decisions or the situation calls for brains over brawn, don't look to the protagonist for any help, but rather the opposite. Remember, in order to confuse the enemy, you must first confuse yourself! Gameplay Dragon Knight is essentially a boss rush game with a little story, shenanigans, and buffoonery in between boss fights. There are over 30 collectable hand painted tapestries featuring dragon-themed artwork hidden throughout the game, along with an optional puzzle and minigame or two. Combat is fairly straightforward and consists of timing when to attack, block, dodge, or risk a combo attack for extra damage. There is a basic talent tree, and various weapons and shields you'll find along the way with abilities of their own may shake up your strategy. The Dragon Master, Darklarza, has been terrorizing the kingdom for many years. The king was forced into exile by this threat. He retreated, with the bravest knight in the kingdom, named Garaden. Darklarza stages an attack on the king's fortress, breaks in and manages to abduct the royal princess. Garaden sets off to vanquish Darklarza and rescue the princess. Dragon Knight marked the beginning of Elf's erotic RPG series. The game is played entirely from a first-person perspective. In the town, you move around by selecting destinations from a menu. Once you enter the tower, you navigate your character through 3D mazes, fighting random enemies in turn-based combat. Enemies in the game are scantily clad, attractive young women; there are also several scenes with explicit nudity.

In the kingdom of Strawberry Fields, a place inhabited only by women, the Goddess' Tower has protected the land and its people for generations. Then one day, the monstrous Dragon Knights, corrupted by evil and led by the demon Gazelbaan, descended upon the tower, and the people of Strawberry Fields suddenly find themselves threatened by his army of monsters, who have turned the goddess Aquarina to stone and captured the warrior women, demanding the six gems that are a source of magical power of the goddess to be delivered to them or else they would kill their hostages. Answering the plea for help from Queen Luna, the young warrior and traveler Yamato Takeru takes them on.

Gameplay-wise, Dragon Knight is a dungeon crawler typical for its era (similar to that of early Wizardry games). The exploration and combat are shown from the first-person perspective using a 2D engine, combat in the game is turn-based and enemies are encountered randomly (a similar system was also used in the first sequel). With each new floor, the mazes becomes more sophisticated (in the remake there is a helpful mini-map with grid coordinates), and enemies are getting stronger. The fights in the first game are difficult and unbalanced. The protagonist can attack, defend, and use spells and items to fight monsters (up to six (three in the remake) at once).
