SEASONAL FACTION RELEASES SEASON 1: LIZARDMEN Lizardmen, renowned for their 8,000-year history in Blood Bowl, exemplify unparalleled team spirit and expertise from each caste on the pitch. SEASON 2: UNDERWORLD DENIZENS Underworld teams, fueled by warpstone and exotic mushrooms, consist of Goblins, Skavens, Trolls, Rat Ogres, and Snotlings, seeking revenge by humiliating the richest teams. SEASON 3: SHAMBLING UNDEAD Traditionalist necromancy teams feature elite thousand-year-old Mummies, Skeletons, Ghouls, and occasionally freshly risen Zombies stolen from opposing teams. SEASON 4: WOOD ELF Wood Elf teams, known for their dazzling performances and susceptibility to spectacular defeats, are incredibly popular for their superior gameplay and stunning presence. SEASON 5: NECROMANTIC HORROR Comprising reanimated zombies, resilient flesh golems, swift werewolves, and sinister wraiths, the Necromantic Horrors brings a unique blend of strength, speed, and dark magic to the pitch. SEASON 6: HALFLINGS & GOBLINS The first two pint-sized teams join the game. They may be small but they're certainly not harmless: the Halflings and Goblins have all the tools they need to turn the match in their favour and beat the odds. Blood Bowl is a combination of a tactical and sports game. The basics are extremely simple: two teams, one ball. The team that carries the ball into the opponent's end zone scores a touchdown, the team with the most touchdowns at the end of the game is the winner. However, it’s how you decide to do this that makes things interesting, the ends justify the means! It’s not just the players you have at your disposal either. You can bribe the referee to look the other way as you cripple or trample annoying opponents and hire illegal wizards to give you a hand directly from the crowd… Blood Bowl severely tests the finest tacticians' strategies. There are many races to accommodate every player’s profile (23 in the Chaos Edition, 20 in the Legendary Edition, 9 in the Standard Edition) and even more strategies for experimenting. Winning a game requires a strong game-sense and a lot of self-control. For the player's enjoyment, omnipresent humour and the use of spells, weapons, and other non-regulatory actions place Blood Bowl outside of the classic sport simulation genre.

Blood Bowl is a two-player, turn-based board game that typically uses 28 mm miniatures to represent a contest between two teams on a playing field. A board containing a grid overlay represents the field. Using dice, cards, and counters, the players attempt to score higher than each other by entering the opponent's end zone with a player who possesses the ball. The "Blood" in Blood Bowl is represented by the violent actions available to players. Game play is based on a hybrid of gridiron football and rugby. Players may attempt to injure or maim the opposition in order to make scoring easier by reducing the number of enemy players on the field. The player races are drawn from the ranks of fantasy races and have characteristics that reflect the abilities of those races. Elves tend to be agile and good at scoring, while dwarfs and orcs are more suited to a grinding, physical style of play. All teams offer a choice between player types with different statistics: related races (e.g. skeletons and zombies in undead teams, various lizardmen types), guests of allied races (e.g. trolls in orc and goblin teams), exotic or monstrous units (e.g. ghouls, wights and mummies in undead teams), and specialists of different roles (usually some combination of Blockers, Blitzers, Throwers, Catchers, Runners and Linemen). Teams can include any number of players of the most basic type (usually Linemen), while the stronger units are limited to 1, 2, 4 or 6 per team. In league play, players gain additional skills and abilities based on their accumulation of experience points. Players face potential injury or even death on the field throughout their careers. Teams improve by the purchase of off-field staff such as cheerleaders, assistant coaches, and apothecaries. Disparity between team values is offset by the purchase of ad-hoc star players or mercenaries, as well as bribes and additional temporary support staff, such as wizards or a halfling cook.
