A cult of engineers and scientists have devoted their lives in the pursuit of recovering the knowledge of ancient and forgotten civilization (predates all known cultures on present day Korelis by thousands of years) on Korelis that had successfully constructed a machine that allowed interdimensional travel by opening rifts, the Pentarc. This cult was dedicated to the pursuit of solving the many mysteries of the universe and yield their power to ascend to a higher plane of existence. They hoped that with this fabled machine their access to knowledge would be endless. After deciphering many ancient texts left behind by this civilization, they discovered the ruins of one of their cities where this machine was believed to be located. Within the ruins they found the machine. After centuries of toiling they both restored the Pentarc and rebuilt the city. Once completion, its first attempt at opening a rift resulted in a cataclysmic failure, sucking in all cult members into the void and shattering the Pentarc with a large explosion. With the failure, the very fabric of time and space had been damaged causing the borders between different dimensions and worlds to breakdown. Now Korelis serves as place where other planes and beings converge.
