A text-based sandbox RPG where every choice shapes your story. Build your character from the ground up, choosing your race, class, and abilities, then set out into a world shaped by your decisions. Features: CUSTOMIZE Build your character, starting with a D&D inspired character creator menu. Choose your class, race, age, body type, and character traits to determine your starting stats, signature weapon, and known languages. SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES As you level up in Mythscroll , you'll earn both attribute points and skill points. Attribute points let you enhance your core stats like Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence, shaping your character’s physical and magical abilities. Skill points can be invested into a wide variety of skills, such as Stealth, Nature, Music, and more, and further define how your character performs in and out of combat. Whether you want to talk your way out of danger, scale cliffs, cast spells, or sneak past enemies, your build choices open up different paths through the world. FILL OUT YOUR COMPENDIUM Each time you discover a new place or encounter a new creature in Mythscroll, it is recorded in your compendium. This growing archive provides vital knowledge to guide your journey, offering insights into the regions and places you travel through, as well as providing valuable information about finding, understanding, and fighting the creatures who dwell within them. Each creature presents an opportunity: some can be spoken with, bargained with, or studied, while others must be fought and overcome. EXPLORE AN OPEN WORLD WITH 40+ LOCATIONS Fill out your map as you explore and uncover new places in the world. Discover a diverse variety of regions, including forests, plains, oceans, mountains, frozen tundra, and volcanic rock. There are unique cities and landmarks to find throughout every region, along with opportunities to encounter new creatures, events, and gear. 200+ WEAPONS, ARMOR, AND ACCESSORIES TO COLLECT Find and collect a variety of powerful weapons, spell scrolls, shields, armor, and enchanted accessories. There are many ways to acquire new gear: Finding it in the world (in chests, caves, etc.) Buying from merchants Completing quests Asking people or creatures you encounter to give you their gear (if you have a high enough charisma stat) Robbing merchants or creatures you encounter Defeating people or creatures you encounter in combat 50+ SPELLS TO LEARN Mythscroll offers five unique schools of magic available to certain classes: Musical (Bards), Holy (Clerics), Nature (Druids), and two Mage paths: Dark magic and Elemental (fire, water, ice, and lightning) magic. TURN-BASED COMBAT Choose if and how you want to attack each turn based on what weapons you have equipped and what spells you know. You can change your equipped gear and learn and forget spells mid-combat to access different options. 150+ LOCATION BASED ENCOUNTERS WITH BRANCHING OUTCOMES Every journey in Mythscroll is rich with unexpected events and meaningful decisions. Solve mysteries, help (or hinder) characters, and delve into storylines that branch based on your decisions. Some quests offer unique rewards and provide new opportunities to shape your character and the world around you. MORALITY SYSTEM Many encounters in Mythscroll carry choices that can shape your character’s morality. Helping travelers, completing certain quests, or defeating corrupt creatures will raise your standing, while acts like robbery or harming innocents will lower it. Your morality influences how others treat you. Those of high virtue, such as knights, guards, or angels, will turn hostile if your reputation sinks too low, and some quests may only be available at specific morality levels. CHOOSE YOUR CHALLENGE LEVEL Mythscroll offers three difficulty modes tailored to different playstyles. The default mode of the game provides a classic, challenging experience: when defeated, you lose some gold and one item before awakening in the last safe zone. For the boldest players, Permadeath Mode raises the stakes even higher, as your save file is deleted if your character dies. Players looking for a more relaxed adventure can choose Kind Mode , where only gold is lost upon death (and at half the usual amount). Kind Mode also grants a 30% XP boost for faster progression, raises the legendary creature encounter rate from 3% to 5%, and provides passive HP and mana recovery (2% per turn while traveling or waiting). Both Kind Mode and Permadeath Mode can be selected during character creation, though only one can be active for a character at a time. Kind Mode may be toggled on or off at any time using the smiley face icon in the top-left corner of the screen, while Permadeath is permanent once chosen. HAND PIXELED BACKGROUNDS The game includes dozens of hand pixeled backgrounds to represent each area in the game. There is an "Immersive Backgrounds" setting option that allows you to toggle between having the full size pixel art backgrounds on, or just having a clean and simple black background.
